SDF-Trained Search Teams Deploy to Washington State in Wake of Massive Storm System

Seven SDF-trained search teams deployed to Washington state as an atmospheric river moves through the Pacific Northwest, causing widespread flooding and mudslides throughout western Washington. Erik Falkenstrom & Leslie, Brian Medley & Navy, and Alyssa Corsa & Wheeler of California Task Force 4, and Brandon Budd & Otter, Pat Easton & Linus, Mike Harcos & Buck, and James McCandless & Mac of California Task Force 7, along with their task force teammates, join rescuers from nearby states as they moved into position to assist communities affected by this powerful storm.

The storm system brought record flooding to Washington state, which experts warned could potentially reach catastrophic levels. As the flood danger intensified, up to 100,000 people faced evacuation, and rescues were underway.

The task forces assisted with checking areas affected by the flooding to ensure that no one was trapped in their homes or vehicles. After nearly two weeks in the Pacific Northwest, the teams returned home safely, just in time for the holidays.

Our thoughts remain with all those who have been affected, and we send our immense thanks to all the rescuers, both two- and four-legged, who answered the call.
