Description:
Assist our canine training team by hiding in the rubble for search dogs to find. No experience is necessary—just a willingness to gear up with safety equipment and climb into hides or onto rubble piles to be “buried” in tight, dark, dusty spaces for the dogs to find. Please note that training is dynamic and may change day‑of as scenarios evolve, and learning opportunities arise. While we do our best to involve everyone who signs up, we can’t guarantee that every volunteer will spend the entire time hiding. To keep everyone safe, comfortable, and engaged, we rotate volunteers in and out of hides for breaks Additional volunteers may be assigned as spotters, actors, or scenario participants to help make the training as realistic and effective as possible for our first responders.
Your Impact:
By serving as a volunteer “victim,” you play a direct role in preparing search dogs and their handlers for real disaster deployments. Your participation helps dogs build confidence, precision, and problem-solving skills in realistic scenarios—skills that can ultimately mean faster rescues and saved lives when disaster strikes.
What to Wear:
- Job specific PPE will be provided
- Please wear closed-toe shoes and long sleeve shirt
- Sun protection recommended (sunscreen, hat, etc.)
If you would like to participate as a volunteer victim at an upcoming training event, please use the button below to sign up for any of the dates listed.
