SDF Teams Transition from Texas Flood Response to Stage Ahead of Tropical Storm Bertha

Following several days of assisting with flood response efforts in Texas, SDF-trained canine teams Adam Schaaf & Dodger and Steve MacDonald & Molly (Nebraska Task Force 1) have repositioned to stage ahead of incoming Tropical Storm Bertha. 

Tropical Storm Bertha continues to strengthen in the Gulf as it tracks toward the northern Gulf Coast. The storm is expected to impact the coasts of Mississippi and Louisiana before making landfall along the Texas coastline—centered near Galveston—and pushing north inland toward Dallas.  

Because heavy rain and severe flash flooding are anticipated across eastern Texas, our teams have transitioned into a pre-positioning posture. By staging ahead of the storm’s path, Adam, Dodger, Steve, and Molly can respond immediately should local communities require search and rescue support as Bertha moves inland.  

The agility of our search teams allows them to shift rapidly from active disaster operations to pre-disaster staging. We are keeping affected communities, our deployed handlers, canine partners, and all first responders in our thoughts as they prepare for this oncoming storm.
