Six Canine Disaster Search Teams Achieve Certification in the Month of April!

April 2022

After many months of activity freezes within the federal and state testing systems, certification tests have resumed. Three SDF-trained canine disaster search teams were in Las Vegas, Nevada over the weekend of April 16-17 to attend their very first FEMA Certification Evaluation. We’re happy to report that Kalub Lewis & Cyrus and Tom Simons & Forrest (both with Utah Task Force 1), and Garreth Miller & Reva (California Task Force 4) all achieved certification!

Additionally, two SDF-trained canine disaster search teams tested in Linthicum, Maryland on April 21st and achieved first-time certification: Shawn Hall & Manion and Karen Meadows & Jax of Virginia Task Force 2.

Just two days later, on April 23, Brook Rowley & Echo (New York Task Force 2), achieved their State Urban Search and Rescue (SUSAR) recertification in Kansas.

These teams will now remain deployable for three years, ensuring they are ready to answer the call when needed in the aftermath of disasters.

Congratulations, teams, on your certifications, and thank you for your commitment to keeping communities safe!
