On May 5, 2026, SDF-Trained Team Max and Samantha Mar of the San Francisco Fire Department, California Task Force 3 (CA-TF3) were called into action to support a wide area search in San Francisco.
The San Francisco Fire Department and local police responded to a vehicle crash where it was feared the driver had been ejected from the vehicle. Max and Sam were tasked with searching the surrounding landscape for anyone who might be missing and in need of urgent medical attention. After a thorough search of the area, the team was able to help officials determine that no one was missing from the scene.
Following the search, Sam shared her pride in Max’s performance:
“Since our Certification Evaluation, we have been working on wide area concepts, so to watch him work this area was so amazing! So, so proud of this guy!”
While the primary focus for SDF-trained teams is urban disaster search, such as navigating rubble piles following an earthquake, search scenarios like this can arise at any time. Max and Sam have been training regularly for these exact situations, and we are incredibly proud to see them put their skills to use to serve their local community.
