Across the United States, shelters are struggling to find homes for high-drive dogs who are labeled “too much,” or deemed unmanageable, simply because they have an extraordinary energy that typical family homes can’t accommodate. At the Search Dog Foundation, we see these dogs differently. We know they are meant for more.
SDF recruits these intense, high-energy canines and gives them a profound second chance—and a forever family—through our disaster search program. Perceived chaos is transformed into a lifesaving purpose. Many will go on to become certified urban search and rescue canines, paired with first responders to save lives after disasters. Some will thrive in other specialized careers or find their calling as cherished companions in an active pet home.
No matter where they find their ultimate fulfillment, they won’t do it alone! Their journey from a shelter to a life of true purpose and love begins with you and the caring community of donors who unite on their behalf through The Rachael Ray Rescue Brigade.
By joining this year’s campaign, you can directly support a brighter future for these incredible dogs and the Search Dog Foundation’s ability to give them the special lives they deserve.
We aim to raise $600,000 by September 15, and The Rachael Ray Foundation™ has generously granted $230,000 to get us well on our way to our goal.
Your donation will empower SDF to:
- Engage over 200 shelters and rescues nationwide to find, evaluate, and transport more dogs to our National Training Center.
- Train canine recruits to search for survivors and aid the work of rescue crews.
- Find an alternate placement of their choice if they decide disaster search isn’t for them.
- Care for our high-drive dogs throughout their lives. From providing daily essentials to funding medical treatments, SDF ensures all dogs in our family receive excellent care and never need to be rescued again.
Show the world they are meant for more. Donate to the Search Dog Foundation today!

The Rachael Ray Foundation is one of our most generous supporters. The Foundation is funded by the proceeds from the sale of Rachael Ray™ Nutrish®. Through June 2026, more than $131 million has been donated to animal charities and other organizations through The Rachael Ray Foundation and its predecessor entity.
We are thrilled that The Rachael Ray Rescue Brigade will shine a spotlight for the tenth consecutive year on this vital part of our mission and excited for the fund’s ability to directly impact the number of homeless dogs that will be given a lifetime of care as part of our SDF family.
