SDF-Trained Search Teams Deploy to Virginia Structure Collapse

Our teams train year-round for the unexpected, and this past week, that readiness was put to the test when Trinity Maurer and Search Dog Goldie deployed on their very first mission together!

On April 13th, Trinity was in Virginia Beach, VA, teaching a canine care refresher course to her task force members when their chief received a request for a canine search team in neighboring Newport News. A vacant building had collapsed around 1 pm, and Trinity and Goldie were on their way within minutes.

Before Trinity and Goldie arrived on-site, a comprehensive safety assessment had already been conducted. To ensure the scene was secure, local police provided vital aerial support using drone technology. Once Trinity and Goldie arrived, they were briefed by the incident command and began their search of the collapsed vacant structure.

Following the search, Trinity shared, “Luckily, no one was found. Goldie did really well! We are thankful for the work and that no one was missing or injured.” After a job well done on her first official deployment, Goldie enjoyed a luxurious and well-earned nap.

We are so proud of this team for answering the call with speed and professionalism. You can see them in action via video shared by Virginia Task Force 2: Watch the search here.

Please join us in congratulating Trinity and Goldie on a successful first mission! We know you are as proud of them as we are, and we thank our SDF community for your continued support of these incredible teams.
