I met Wilma Melville, the founder of National Disaster Search Dog Foundation, when she first had the vision to start this Foundation. I’m honored that I’ve been able to watch this Foundation grow to what it is today. I’m very proud to have been a volunteer for the past 10 years. To rescue dogs from shelters and train them to be search dogs is truly a wonderful thing to witness. The care these dogs are given is phenomenal and the facilities are top notch. If a dog does not make it into the program for some reason, that dog is trained to do something else or a home is found for him/her. I am the lucky recipient of one of these Lifetime Care dogs. The Foundation follows up on all dogs that become Lifetime Care dogs, and I know I can always turn to them for any problem I have with my dog. We should all be grateful that the Foundation is here and their trained dogs are available for all disasters.
